BASEBALL BLANKS BENEDICTINE 3-0 IN FINAL GAME AT RUSS MATT

Auburndale, FL:  The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Benedictine University in their final game at the Russ Matt Tournament, 3-0.  The Roadrunners will head home with a 6-5 overall record while the Eagles stand at 7-6 overall.

Kyle Lisa led the Roadrunners hitting 2-3 and plating one run while Vincent Timpanelli went 2-4 scoring a run.  The Roadrunners scattered eight hits over the nine innings of play.

Ramapo scored what would be the winning run in the 3-0 shutout in the second inning.  Timpanelli singled to left field on a 1-2 count to lead off the inning.  With two outs on the board Bryan Franko would step up to the plate and send the ball past the third baseman with a single allowing Timpanelli to come home, 1-0. The Roadrunners would tack on two more runs, both unearned, in the seventh inning.  Franko reached on an error, moved to second on a sac bunt before he scored on Philip Mahlik's single through the left side of the infield, 2-0. Mahlik would get thrown out at second base as he tried to advance on the relay throw home. With two outs, Lisa would step up to the plate and lace a double into the right-center field gap.  Nick Camilleri would be up next and would single to the third baseman to put runners on first and third. Lisa would later score on an infield error, 3-0.

Jon Brignoni started on the mound for the Roadrunners, earning his first win of the season, pitching seven innings, striking out eight batters, walking two, and scattering five hits.  Greg Westhelle earned his first save of the season as he struck out two, working the final two innings.

The Roadrunners return to action Tuesday, March 26 at 3:30pm when they travel to Danbury, CT to take on the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University in non-conference action.
