Kings Point, NY: The United States Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team handed Ramapo College their first loss of the season in an 18-10 non-conference match-up. USMMA improves to 5-0 overall and the Roadrunners now stand at 3-1 on the year.
USMMA jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first half before Ramapo tallied three straight goals to come within two. A free position shot from
Shannon Eagan put the Roadrunners on the board before
Molly Warner and
Gabi Davidson scored back-to-back goals in thirty seconds, 3-5. USMMA tallied six more goals in the half and Davidson hit the back of the net for Ramapo as USMMA went into halftime up 11-4.
In the second half,
Beth McGraw opened the scoring for Ramapo with a free position shot just two minutes into the half 5-11 before Maura Malone and Jessie Wohner tacked on one goal each for USMMA for a 13-5 lead. Davidson score the next four goals for Ramapo while Meredith Willard added a goal for the Merchant Marine as they led 14-9. USMMA added three straight goals to push the lead to 17-9 before Ramapo added their tenth goal of the game as McGraw scored on a free position shot. Whoner added the final goal of the game in the 28th minute as USMMA took the game 18-10.
Alexandra Kerwin recorded four saves for the Roadrunners all in the second half while Hannah Gizzi tallied three saves in the game. Davidson led Ramapo with six goals while McGraw added two goals. Wohner posted seven goals to lead USMMA while she added one assist.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, March 23rd when they travel to FDU-Florham for a non-conference game at 1pm.
