Auburndale, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Springfield College 6-2 today at the Russ Matt Invitational. The Roadrunners and the Pride each even their record at 3-3 overall.
Springfield got on the board in the top of the third inning with one run before Ramapo took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Brandon Russo walked, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out. Chad Shade then lifted a sac fly to center field allowing Russo to cross home plate for a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the third inning
Anthony Kuzmenko led off with a single and
Nick Camilleri was hit by a pitch before
Kyle Buser put down a sac bunt to move the runners up one base.
Vincenzo Sita came up big with a single to center field which allowed Kuzmenko to score to tie the game before
Liam Duffy plated the go ahead run. With a two-outs Duffy laced a RBI single to left field allowing Camilleri to score 2-1.
Ramapo added one run in the fourth when
Nick Cuba laced a triple into the left-center field before Camilleri knocked him in with single up the middle 3-1. Springfield looked to get on the board in the top of the fifth inning when they loaded the bases with no outs. Following a Ramapo pitching change for reliever
Kyle Haag, the Roadrunners got a 5-3-2 double play before Haag induced a fly out to right field to preserve the lead.
The Roadrunners added one more run in the fifth when
Kyle Lisa knocked home Sita to extend the lead 4-1. Springfield added one run in the top of the sixth when Sage Bray doubled home Ryan Smith to pick up the RBI. Ramapo also added a single run in the sixth to push the lead to 5-2 when Sita plated Cuba with a bases loaded sac fly to center field while they added their final run of the game in the seventh inning. With two outs in the inning
Philip Mahlik poked a single through the infield before moving to second on a pass ball. Cuba then laced a double into center field allowing Mahlik to score 6-2. Neither team would score in the final two innings as Ramapo earned the non-conference victory.
Ramapo belted out ten hits in the game while Sita finished 2-3 with two RBI and one run scored and Cuba finished 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Haag (1-1) earned the win in relief as he struck out three, walked none and scattered two hits in two innings of work. Starting pitcher
Thomas Feehan worked the first four innings, he struck out two, walked five and surrendered four hits. The bullpen only let up two Pride hits the final five innings of work. Kuzmenko went two innings, struck out two and walked one while
Jeff Millet worked the ninth recording the final three outs while he recorded one walk.
Mitch Write took the loss for the Pride in his first start of the season. In four innings of work he struck out four, walked two and scattered five hits while letting up three runs.
The Roadrunners return to action when they take on Albright College at Lake Myrtle Field #6 at 10:15am.
