RAMAPO FALLS TO THE COLLEGE OF MOUNT SAINT VINCENT IN OVERTIME

Mahwah, NJ:  The College of Mount Saint Vincent held on for an overtime victory over the Ramapo College men's basketball team tonight in non-conference action, 74-73.  The Roadrunners now stand at 3-5 overall while the Dolphins move to 3-5 overall. 
 
The Dolphins jumped out to an early 9-2 lead on a 9-0 run capped off by a jumper from Kalos Evans.  Back-to-back shots from Jason Battle and Rob McWilliams brought the Roadrunners within four with 11:18 play, 9-13.  Raiquis Harris would sink a three-pointer to extend the Dolphins lead to nine before Jason Battle would spark a 12-2 run for the Roadrunners capped off with a three-pointer from Connor Romano giving the Roadrunners the first lead of the game, 23-22.  The Dolphins went on a 10-2 run in the final five minutes of play in the first half heading into the locker room with the 34-28 lead. 
 
Matt Latka and Jordan Zagadou would tally back-to-back layups over 48 seconds of play to bring the Roadrunners within two before the Dolphins would stretch the lead back out to seven, 34-41.  Latka and McWilliams would close the gap to one with back-to-back layups, 42-43.  With just under 11 minutes remaining in the game Battle earned a steal and scored a fast-break jumper put the Roadrunners on top, 48-46.  The two teams would trade baskets before Ramapo would go on a 7-0 run behind five points from Marquise Kindel giving them the largest lead of the game 63-58.  Kalos Evans would sink what would be the final three-point shot of the game with 1:21 left to play to tie the score at 63 and the two teams would head into overtime. 
 
Vinny Tavella netted a three-point shot with just over three minutes to play in the overtime period to put the Dolphins up, 68-64.  The two teams would trade shots before McWilliams would sink a three-point shot from the top of the key to close the gap to two, 69-71.  A Roadrunner foul with 1:01 left to play to send Johnson to the line, he would make both free-throws before Harris would net one from the line.  McWilliams would tack on two more from the line closing the gap to three with 38 seconds left on the clock. Romano was fouled sending him to the line where he would net both shots to cut the lead to one, 73-74.  A turnover by the Dolphins gave Ramapo the ball back on their offensive half of the court with .4 on the clock. Following a Roadrunner time out, a last second shot from Zagadou would not fall giving the Dolphins the non-conference victory. 
 
Four Roadrunners scored in double figures in the game as McWilliams led the team with 24 points while he pulled down nine rebounds. Kindel came off the bench and tallied 15 points, three steals and two blocks while Latka and Battle each contributed with ten points. Romano led the team with ten rebounds while he added nine points, three assists and two steals. The team shot 44% (27-61) from the field, 31% (5-16) from the three-point line and 77% (14-18) from the free throw line.
 
Harris led the Dolphins with 23 points, four steals, three assists and one block while Evans contributed with 18 points and a team high seven rebounds. Johnson finished 3-4 from beyond the three-point line while posting 15 points, three assists and a team high seven steals. The team shot 41% (26-62) from the field, 25% (7-28) from the three-point line and 62% (15-24) from the free throw line.  
 
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, December 11th when they travel to Kean University for a NJAC game at 8pm. The Cougars are holding a canned food drive, bring three cans of food to the game and enter free!
