New York, NY: The Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped a tough non-conference road match-up today to Baruch, 56-60. With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 8-4 overall on the year while the Bearcats improve to 6-2.
Alie Wickersheim led the Roadrunners today with 15 points as she shot 6-11 from the field and 3-5 from the charity stripe. Wickersheim pulled down nine rebounds while
Abbegail Whildin led with ten rebounds. She contributed eight points to the game.
Samantha Rinaldi collected 14 points and pulled down five rebounds while the team hit 21-54 (39%) from the field.
Baruch spent the entire first period on top except for a brief tie at 6:11 (5-5) when
Cherie Smedile drained a three. It wasn't enough as the Bearcats worked to a seven-point advantage with 1:19 to play and a basket from Sameera Ahmed. Ramapo trailed 12-17 after the first before working to the game's second tie with 4:51 to play in the half with a layup from Wildin (21-21). The Roadrunners took the lead with 3:30 to play with a basket from Wickersheim (24-23). The teams traded baskets to end the half with Baruch finishing on top at the buzzer, 30-27.
To start the third the Bearcats worked to a 37-29 lead with a jumper from Melinda Spahiu before Ramapo responded with a 5-0 run capped by Wickersheim to come within three (34-37) at 5:38. At 2:41,
Stacey Porzl scored two to come within one, (38-39) but Baruch responded closing out the period to lead by five, 47-42. In the fourth, the Roadrunners pushed to come within one, 54-55 at 1:40 with a goal from Whildin, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats held on and pushed for the 60-56 win over the Roadrunners.
Nia Dawson led the Bearcats with 21 points and Ahmed added 16 as the team hit a combined 22-66 (33%) in the win. Frances Snyder grabbed seven steals and Dawson pulled down nine rebounds. Daniela Zirpolo pulled down a team high 11 rebounds.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 8
th when they travel to Rutgers Camden for a 6pm tip-off in a New Jersey Athletic Conference pairing.
