Las Vegas, NV: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated the College of St. Scholastica 73-71 in their final game at the D3Hoops.com Classic at South Point Arena. The Roadrunners move to 5-7 overall while the Saints now stand at 4-8 overall.
The Saints led 27-15 in the first half with just under ten minutes left to play before Ramapo went on a 9-0 run. The Roadrunners to cut the lead to three 24-27 as
Rob McWilliams capped of the run with a jumper with 8:08 on the clock. The Saints led by six before
Jason Battle started a mini 6-2 run which cut the lead to two 32-34 with 3:41 left to play in the half before a three-pointer from Collin Anderson for a 37-32 lead. Ramapo would close out the half on a 6-0 run to take a 38-37 lead into the clocker room.
Ramapo opened the second half on a 7-2 run to take a 45-39 lead as
Matt Latka tallied five points during the run. Nick Carlson tallied a jumper for the Saints while
Connor Romano sank a three-pointer for Ramapo as they led 48-41 with 15:26 on the clock. That started a 13-4 run which included three three-pointers, two from Romano and one from Manny Warren as Ramapo led 58-45 with just over 12 minutes left to play. Ramapo held a 69-58 lead with just under five minutes left in the game before the Saints went on a 13-2 run that included back-to-back-to back three-pointers, one from Anderson and two from Jack Silgen. That run would tie the game as Anderson capped off the run with a layup with six seconds on the clock 71-71. Battle would go to the line with five seconds remaining and sank a pair of free throws to give Ramapo a 73-71 lead. A three-point attempt to win it for the Saints would not go in as Ramapo held on for the non-conference victory.
Latka led the Roadrunners with 18 points while McWilliams tallied 16 points, ten rebounds and six assists. Warren posted 14 points while Romano and
Jordan Zagadou each collected eight points in the game. The team shot 49% (30-61) from the field, 38% (5-13) from the three-point line and 72% (8-11) from the free throw line.
The Saints were led by Anderson and Carlson who each tallied 17 points while Quinn Fischer posted 13 points and a team high seven rebounds. The team shot 45% (26-57) from the field, 32% (11-34) from the three-point line and 88% (8-9) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 8th when they travel to Rutgers-Camden University for a NJAC conference game at 8pm.
