WICKERSHEIM'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS RAMAPO OVER RUTGERS-NEWARK 55-46

Ramapo moves to 6-0 overall and opens the NJAC season at 1-0 overall

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team improves to 6-0 overall, 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, as they defeated Rutgers-Newark University, 55-46 today.  Rutgers-Newark falls to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in the conference. 
 
The Roadrunners were led by Alie Wickersheim who netted 12 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out three assists.  Jenna Harsh netted 11 points, Stacey Porzl had 10 and Samantha Rinaldi collected eight as they each pulled down five rebounds.  The team shot 21-62 (34%) from the field and forced 23 turnovers.  Hannah Ashby led the Scarlet Raiders with 14 points while Comfort Akinbo collected 11 rebounds.  The team shot 22% (13-59) from the field.   
 
Ramapo came out strong in the second quarter to go on a 9-0 run, started by a layup from Porzl and was capped off with two points from Abbegail Whildin over 2:07 of play to take a 22-14 lead.  Rutgers came back netting five points to close the gap to three before the Roadrunners would score the final four points of the half heading into the locker room with the 26-19 lead.  Porzl led the Roadrunners in the half with seven points while Sarah Minchin added six and Wickersheim collected seven rebounds.  The team forced 12 turnovers and held Rutgers-Newark to only four baskets out of 29 attempts from the field. 
 
With 5:46 remaining in the third period Hannah Ashby would spark a 7-0 run for Rutgers-Newark that was capped off by a three-pointer from Samiyah Horton to tie the game at 30.  Ramapo answered back going on a 9-0 run over 4:46 of play behind seven points from Alie Wickersheim to give the Roadrunners the 39-30 go ahead lead.  Rutgers-Newark came within one of the Roadrunners after a 10-2 run with two free throws from Syncere Lambert.  Jenna Harsh would make a lay-up after receiving the pass from Wickersheim sparking another Roadrunner run.  Samantha Rinaldi would cap off the run sinking a three-point shot to put Ramapo on top 51-42.  The two teams would finish out the game trading free-throws and the Roadrunners would come away with the 55-46 victory. 
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, December 4th at 5:30pm when they take on Montclair State University for a conference match-up.
