Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team hosted the Cardinals of York College in a non-conference match-up today. The Roadrunners posted an 80-44 victory and now improve to 5-0 overall while the Cardinal's open the season with a loss to stand at 0-1.
The Roadrunners were led by
Alie Wickersheim who posted 20 points in the win.
Jessica Repasy,
Cherie Smedile, and
Jenna Harsh all contributed 11 points as the team finished shooting 28-61 (49%).
Stacey Porzl dished out five assists while Repasy pulled down 10 rebounds.
Samantha Rinaldi grabbed four steals and the Roadrunners forced 26 turnovers.
The Roadrunners jumped to a six-point lead in the first quarter with a three-pointer from Smedile followed by one from Repasy, 14-7 with 3:25 to play. The Cardinals tacked on nine points in the last two minutes of play to close the gap to four, 18-22, to end the quarter. The Roadrunners dominated the second quarter netting 20 points to York's four, extending the lead to 42-22. Wickersheim led the Roadrunners with 12 points shooting 4-9 while Smedile collected nine. The team hit a combined 14-32. Repasy pulled down five rebounds while Wickersheim collected four. Ramapo forced 16 turnovers in the first two quarters. For York, Daniesha Newsome led the team with six points and Destiny Drummond added four while the team collected eight baskets on 32 attempts. Ellma Hodzic collected six rebounds.
In the final two quarters the Roadrunners continued to spread the gap and never looked back to take the non-conference win. Wickersheim added eight points while Repasy and
Sarah Minchin each added six points. The team went 14-29 from the field. Repasy collected five rebounds and
Abbegail Whildin pulled down three. The Cardinals collected 22 more points on 30 attempts. The team was led by Destenee Bailey in the remainder of the game as she netted five points.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Tuesday, November 26th for a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up against Rutgers Newark at 5:30pm.
