New London, CT: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Connecticut College today in non-conference action 74-55. The Roadrunners move to 2-1 overall while the Camels now stand at 1-1 on the year.
Ramapo opened the game with a basket from
Jason Battle while
Matt Latka sank one of two free throws for a 3-0 lead before the Camels went on a 12-0 run to take a 12-3 lead. Connecticut would push the lead to ten with 11 minutes remaining in the game before they pushed it to 26-12 with a three-pointer from Ben McPherron with just over 6:30 left in the half.
Connor Romano started a 9-0 down the stretch which shrunk the Camel lead to three 25-28 as Latka capped off the run with a layup. Jack Zimmerman sank the final basket of the half, a three-pointer with 39 seconds remaining to put the Camels up 31-25 heading into halftime.
The Roadrunners came out strong in the second half on a 14-3 run which gave them a 37-34 lead off a jumper from Battle with 15:40 on the clock. A three-pointer from Zimmerman shrunk the lead to 39-41 but Battle countered with a three-pointer of his own off a dish from
Rob McWilliams 44-39 with 13:22 on the clock. The Roadrunners would not give up the lead the rest of the game as they pushed the lead to double digits on a three-pointer from
Mark Howell with just over seven minutes remaining 60-48. A 10-2 run capped off with a three-pointer from
Travis Bennett game Ramapo their biggest lead of the game so far 70-50 with 2:39 on the clock before Zimmerman scored a layup for the Camels 52-70. McWilliams scored a basket off a steal from Romano 72-52 before Jeff Allen sank a three-pointer for Connecticut 55-72 with 35 seconds remaining. Romano would score the final points of the game on the free throw line as the Roadrunners came away with a 74-55 road victory.
Bennett led the Roadrunners with 19 points as he finished 7-13 from the field, he also tallied four rebounds, two assists, two steals and three blocks. Latka added 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and one blocked shot while McWilliams and Romano each poured in 13 points. Battle led the team with eight steals while he added nine points and four rebounds. The team shot 50% (27-54) from the field, 50% (5-10) from thee three-point line and 57% (15-26) from the free throw line.
Zimmerman tallied 15 points for the Camels while Dan Draffan posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Allen pulled down ten rebounds while adding four points and four assists. The team shot 38% (21-53) from the field, 29% (7-24) from the three-point line and 60% (6-10) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday night when they host Farmingdale State College at the Bradley Center at 7:30pm.
