Mahwah, NJ: For the first time in program history the Ramapo College men's soccer team was crowned New Jersey Athletic Conference regular season champions as they defeated the Pioneers of William Paterson University, 4-0 at home in their final regular season game of the season. With the victory, the Roadrunners end regular season at 11-1-5 overall and a program's best 6-1-2 in the conference. The Pioneers fall to 6-8-4 overall and 2-4-3 in the NJAC.
The Roadrunners came out on fire and scored back-to-back goals at 8:00 and 8:53 to take a 2-0 lead over William Paterson.
Nick Petrozziello scored what turned out to be the game winner off an assist from
Ariton Mimini. The goal was his third of the season. Fala collected his 14
th of the season as Petrozziello gave the assist. Petrozziello struck again at 38:41 off assists from Fala and Buckel to take a 3-0 advantage.
The score held until the halftime buzzer where Ramapo held a commanding lead in shots, 12-1. Josh Schaffer made one save in net in the first half of play.
The second half went much of the same as the Roadrunners collected 14 shots to the Pioneers five. It went almost scoreless until the 88
th minute when Fala tallied his 15
th of the year to put Ramapo on top, 4-0. Schaffer made three more saves in the half while Thomas Hatch finished with 12 saves for WPU. The Roadrunners earned 11 corners to the Pioneers three.
With the victory and first place finishing, the Roadrunners have earned the #1 seed in the NJAC Tournament with a first round bye. They open the tournament on Wednesday, November 6
th at home at 1:30pm. Opponent TBD.
