Mahwah, NJ: The #4 Rowan University men's soccer team scored a late second half goal to propel the Profs to a NJAC Semifinal win over #1 Ramapo College this afternoon. The Profs improve to 11-4-3 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 11-2-5 overall.
After a scoreless first half the Profs got on the board late in the second half. Rowan senior defender Modou Sowe hit the back of the net with a header off a long throw in from Matt Fahey in the 87th minute of action (86:23).
The Roadrunners would get three more shots off including one in the last seconds of the game but could not come up with the equalizer as Rowan came away with the 1-0 win. The Profs advance to the NJAC Championship game against the winner of #2 Montclair State University and #6 Stockton University, the game will be played on Saturday, November 9th at the highest remaining seed.
Rowan held a 15-14 edge in shots in the game including 7-6 on goal while the Profs held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. James Weinberg for Rowan and
Joshua Schaffer for Ramapo each collected six saves in the game while all six for Weinberg came in the second half.
The Roadrunners, who are ranked #5 in the latest NCAA South Atlantic Regional poll ahead of #6 Rowan (prior to today's contest), will wait to see if they earn an NCAA at-large bid. The announcement will be made on Monday afternoon on www.ncaa.com.
