Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team defeated Rutgers-Newark University tonight 2-1 as they improved to 7-0-4 overall and 2-0-1 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raiders now stand at 4-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.
Bashkim Saiti scored his team leading eighth goal of the season in the first half (17:21) to put Ramapo in the lead 1-0. The lead held through the first half as Ramapo led 6-5 in shots while they also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
In the 60th minute of action (59:10), Rutgers-Newark was awarded a penalty kick as Joe Alba converted to tie the game 1-1. Just over ten minute later
Raul Macedo would find the back of the net, his fifth of the season, to put the Roadrunners on top 2-1. The score would hold and the Ramapo defense would keep the Scarlet Raiders off the board the rest of the game to come away with the NJAC road victory. In the second half Ramapo outshot Rutgers-Newark 14-6 and recorded three corner kicks to their two.
For the game, Ramapo held a 20-11 advantage in shots including 11-7 in shots on goal while they collected eight corner kicks to the Scarlet Raiders' three. Josh Schaffer tallied six saves in the net for the Roadrunners while Andres Medina collected eight saves for Rutgers-Newark.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, October 5th when they travel to NJAC rival Stockton University for a 1pm game.
