HARSH LEADS RAMAPO OVER NJCU 71-55

Jersey City, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team earned a key NJAC road victory over New Jersey City University 71-55. The Roadrunners improve to 7-8 overall, 2-6 in the conference while the Gothic Knights now stand at 3-10 overall and 1-7 in the NJAC.
 
Jenna Harsh got the Roadrunners on the board to start the game with a jumper off an assist from Tia Solomon which started a 14-2 run. Ramapo held NJCU to just six points in the first period as they went up 20-6 heading into the second period. Ramapo saw their biggest lead of the game so far in the second when Solomon sank a pair of free throws with less than six minutes on the clock to extend their lead 28-9 lead. NJCU would shrink the lead to 30-19 on a fast break three-pointer from Jesenia Montalvo with 3:23 left on the clock. Wickersheim and Kaity Potter scored back-to-back baskets for the Roadrunners down the stretch. NJCU outscored Ramapo 6-4 in the final two minutes of action while the Roadrunners went into the locker room up 36-24.
 
Harsh led Ramapo in the first half with 16 points and six rebounds while Wickersheim added six points. Ramapo shot 57% (15-26) from the floor in the first half and 60% (6-10) from the free throw line.
 
Rinaldi started the third period with a three-pointer off a pass from Sagan before Solomon converted on a pair of free throws to take a 40-24 lead. A three-pointer from Christine Bizub, a steal and quick basket from Ma. Bacon cut the Ramapo lead to 11 before Harsh started an 9-0 run for the Roadrunners as they extended their lead 47-29. In the final 2:50 of the third period the Gothic Knights out-scored Ramapo 8-3 as the Roadrunners led 52-39 heading into the final period. The two teams traded baskets at the start before Ramapo extended their lead to 66-43 on a 10-1 run capped off with a jumper from Rinaldi with less than four minutes left in the game. NCJU would shrink the lead to under twenty with back-to-back baskets before a fast break jumper from Ma. Bacon cut the Ramapo lead to 17 with less than 35 seconds left in the game 70-53. Ramapo and NJCU both scored their final points on the free throw line as the Roadrunners came away with a 71-55 NJAC road victory.
 
Harsh finished with a season high 24 points and ten rebounds in her first double-double of the year to lead the Roadrunners while Rinaldi added 13 points, four rebounds and one assist. Wickersheim contributed with nine points, eight rebounds, two blocks and one steal while Sagan and Solomon each collected seven points in the game. The Roadrunners finished shooting 52.8% (28-53) from the field, 14% (1-7) from the three-point line and 53.8% (14-26) from the free throw line.
 
Ma. Bacon led the Gothic Knights with 27 points as she finished 10-26 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line. Montalvo added 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the game while Mi. Bacon tallied a team high 11 rebounds and added eight points, three assists and three steals. The team shot 27% (18-66) from the field, 27% (6-22) from the three-point line and 54% (13-24) from the free throw line.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday at the Bradley Center when they host NJAC rival William Paterson University at 1pm.
