WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS PIONEERS IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team earned a 53-50 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over the Pioneers of William Paterson today at the Bradley Center.  With the victory the Roadrunners improve to .500 at 8-8 overall and 3-6 in conference play.  William Paterson falls to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the NJAC. This was the first time the Roadrunners have defeated the Pioneers since the 2012-2013 season.  

Tia Solomon led the Roadrunners with 13 points as she shot 5-8 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe.  Samantha Rinaldi hit 3-8 from the field and 6-8 from the free throw line netting 12 total points.  Jenna Harsh added 11 and Rinaldi led with three assists.  Harsh pulled down nine rebounds and Solomon added eight.  The team combined hitting 19-56 (34%) from the field and caused only four Pioneer turnovers.  

The Pioneers were led by CeCe Green with 12 points as she went 5-14 from the field.  Brianna Brooks collected ten points and Julie Rovito pulled down a team leading 11 rebounds.  Alisa Giordano dished out four assists as the Pioneers caused 14 Ramapo turnovers.  

It was a close first period as the Roadrunners finished on top, 12-10 at the buzzer and with the two teams trading baskets in the second, Ramapo would head into the locker room with a 28-21 advantage.  Rinaldi led the way with five points in the first and she added one in the second to finish the half with six.  The Roadrunners shot 9-30 (30%) in the first 20 minutes of play.  Ramapo went up by five to start the third period but the Pioneers connected a run to tie the game for the fourth time, 28-28.  With just under a second to go in the third, Chloe Kasbarian nailed down a three to come within one, 38-39 at the buzzer.  Ramapo would lead for the first five minutes of the fourth until the game's sixth tie came with 5:10 on the clock and a jumper from Brooks.  The two teams again traded baskets but with 1:02 on the clock, Harsh gave Ramapo the lead with a two-point goal, 51-50.  Cherie Smedile closed out the game with two free throws to take the win, 53-50.  Ramapo combined for 10-26 (39%) in the final half of play.  

The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 16th when host Rutgers Newark at 5:30pm.
