Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team opened the 2019 season today facing off with the Knights of Arcadia University and Vassar College.
In the first match of the day it would be the Knights of Arcadia who came out with the win as they defeated the Roadrunners, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-18). With the victory the Knights improve to 3-2 overall on the year while the Roadrunners open the 2019 season at 0-1.
Arcadia was led by Austin Braas with 11 kills and Jason Manley with ten kills as the team hit a combined 34-66 with 13 errors (.318). Anthony Devantier dished out 28 assists and Quinn Baily and Zayne George each picked up three digs. Robie Moctezuma made five blocks and Braas and Edwin Waters combined for six.
Eric Van Thuyne led the Roadrunners with seven kills and Conor Charlow picked up four of his own while the team hit -.032 with 22 kills and 24 errors on 62 attempts. Josh Titus dished out 17 assists and Tyler Plitt picked up four digs. The Roadrunners combined for ten blocks, Charlow leading with three.
Arcadia and Vassar would face off in the second match where Arcadia came out on top, 3-2 (24-26, 25-22, 27-29, 25-13, 18-16) before the Brewers of Vassar College took down the Roadrunners, 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 19-25). The Roadrunners fall to 0-2 to start the year while Vassar stands at 1-1 to start their 2019 campaign.
Ramapo was led by Van Thuyne with 15 kills hitting .324 while Stephen Codispodo posted seven kills in the loss. The team hit a combined 32-119 with 22 errors, .084. Titus dished out 25 assists and Plitt led the team with ten digs.
Vassar was led by Jake Kaplan with 14 kills and Yoni Auerbach and George Diehl collected 12 and 11 respectively. Kevin Ros assisted on 40 points and the defense was led by Ros and Matt Usui with 13 digs each. Vassar went 54-118 on offense with 23 errors hitting .263 in the win.
Ramapo will return to action on Wednesday, January 23rd when they travel to New York University for a 7pm match-up.
