BLUE JAYS TOP RAMAPO IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION 2-1

Baltimore, MD:  The Johns Hopkins field hockey team held on for a 2-1 non-conference victory tonight over Ramapo College. The Blue Jays, who earned votes in the NFHCA Top 25 Preseason Poll, improve to 3-0 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-2 on the year.

Two first half goals from the Blue Jays proved to be enough for Johns Hopkins. Michaela Corvi scored her second goal of the season, unassisted in the sixth minute (5:03) before Abby Birks hit the back of the net off a penalty corner with an assist from Valerie Henderson. The game was halted due to a two hour and 47-minute weather delay in the first half. Following the delay, neither team would score in the remaining 25 minutes of the half as the Blue Jays led 2-0.

In the second half, the Roadrunners got on the board in the 43rd minute (42:22) when Ramapo was awarded a penalty corner. Autumn Laird hit the back of the cage off a pass from Victoria Ewanis to come within in one 2-1. The Blue Jays would hold off the Roadrunner offense to hold onto the non-conference victory.

Roadrunner goalie Samantha Stolker recorded 16 saves, she stopped a penalty stroke by the Blue Jays in the 61st minute (60:29). Stacey Faria recorded a defensive save in the game. Johns Hopkins held a 19-1 advantage in shots on goal while they recorded 20 penalty corners to Ramapo's two.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at 11am when they travel to Goucher College (0-2). Live stat/video links can be found on www.ramapoathletics.com.
