Newark, NJ: The Rutgers-Newark University women's soccer team tallied a late goal in the second half to push the Scarlet Raiders to a 2-1 NJAC victory. With the win the Scarlet Raiders improve to 5-4-1 overall, 1-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Rutgers-Newark got on the board early in the first half when Ana Silveira tallied her seventh goal of the season off a pass from Juliana Ceballos in the 17th minute (16:56) to take a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners would tie the game 1-1 in the 36th minute (35:40) when
Kaitlyn Kelly scored her second goal of the season off a corner kick from
Liliann Vizcaino. Vizcaino collected her team leading sixth assist of the year. The score would hold as the two teams went into half time tied at one. Rutgers-Newark led 12-4 in shots in the first half including eight on goal while all four Roadrunner shots were on goal.
Shayna Bohus scored the game-winner with under two minutes (88:05) to play in the game as she took a pass from Samantha Richter and hit the back of the net for the 2-1 lead. In the second half, Rutgers-Newark collected 12 shots to Ramapo's three. The Scarlet Raiders posted four corner kicks in the game to Ramapo's one.
Elizabeth Harvell recorded ten saves for Ramapo while Heidi Paulson collected five saves for the Scarlet Raiders.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, September 29th when they travel to Stockton University (6-3-1, 1-0-1 NJAC) for a conference game at 1pm.
