Newark, NJ: The Rutgers-Newark University women's volleyball team defeated Ramapo College 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16) tonight in NJAC conference action. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference while the Roadrunners now stand at 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC.
Each team recorded 12 kills in game one as the Roadrunners came out on top 25-20.
Morgan Ridgway collected seven of her career high 16 kills in game one before the Scarlet Raiders would come back to take the next three games and win their seventh straight match. Ridgway recorded 16 kills on 51 attempts with nine errors while she added 11 digs on defense.
Nathalie Ortiz hit .389 in the match with nine kills on 18 attempts and just two errors while
Felicia Jimenez collected seven kills, three assists, 17 digs and a team high three service aces.
Kristina Semple led the team on defense with 19 digs while she contributed with three assists.
Kate Shirkey dished out a team high 18 assists and Sarah Correa posted 12 of her own while
Aniella Bednarz and
Samantha Main each recorded three kills and one solo block. The Roadrunners recorded 39 kills as a team on 139 attempts and 26 errors.
For the Scarlet Raiders, Comfort Akinbo led both teams with 21 kills as she hit .314 overall. She also added 15 digs, two aces and one block. Sharon Starling posted 16 kills and nine digs while Dahlia Shoukry led the team with five assisted blocks. Karly Gregoire led the way with 42 assists while she added six digs and three blocks. Brione Lockett led Rutgers-Newark with 27 total digs on defense. The Scarlet Raiders hit .269 as a team with 50 kills on 134 attempts and 14 errors.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow night when they host New York University at the Bradley Center at 7pm. In the first match of the evening will feature NYU and Middlebury College at 5:00pm.
