Mahwah, NJ: The Vassar College field hockey team posted a 5-0 shutout win over Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center. The Brewers improve to 5-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-5 on the year.
Emily Poehlein scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game to put the Brewers on the board 2-0. Poehlein scored her first goal of the game off a pass from Alyssa More in the second minute (1:48) before she added her second goal off a dish from Megan Caveny in the fifth minute (4:09). Caveny put in her first goal of the game off a pass from Niki Rizzo to extend the Brewer lead in the first half to 3-0.
Vassar was awarded a penalty stroke in the 48th minute (47:12) and Stephanie Palma converted to put the Brewers up 4-0 in the second half. Caveny added her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute (51:59) unassisted to push the score 5-0. Vassar held an 18-3 advantage in shots while they recorded all 22 penalty corners in the game.
Liz Rotolo did not need to make a save in the first 52 minutes of the game for the Brewers before Madison Maguire collected two saves in the final 18 minutes.
Samantha Stolker recorded seven saves in the cage for the Roadrunners in the first 65 minutes before
Emily Tomas recorded one save in the final five minutes of action.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, September 19th when they host Union College in a non-conference game at 4pm.
