Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team faced off with the Stevens Institute of Technology today in their 2018 season opener as the Ducks came out on top, 3-2 with a golden gold goal in overtime.
Ramapo would get on the scoreboard first as
Jessica Cacoso hit the back of the cage at the 7:25 minute mark. Stevens responded with a goal of their own at 20:52 as Hannah Silvestri took a pass from Brynn Froehlich to tie the game up 1-1.
The first half buzzer sounded with the two teams knotted at one as Stevens out shot Ramapo, 6-1.
Samantha Stolker made two saves in the cage for Ramapo while Emily Franco went untested making no saves.
At the start of the second, Stevens would go up 2-1 with 16:54 left in regulation as Skylar Migliaccio posted one of her own off an assist from Alyssa Appleby. Cacoso would knot the game at two for Ramapo as she took a pass from
Kelli Ratkoski with just over two minutes left on the clock. The score would hold until the buzzer forcing overtime play.
In the second, the Ducks again out shot Ramapo, 13-4 while Stolker made 11 more saves. Franco made two saves for the Ducks.
In a golden goal overtime, each team took just one shot but it was Steven's Regan Little, off an assist from Michaela Thompson who scored the game winner just 2:44 into the period taking the game from Ramapo, 3-2 in the season opener.
The Roadrunners return to action on Sunday, September 2
nd when they travel to Moravian College for a 12:00pm start.
