Ithaca, NY: The #2 Ramapo College softball team defeated #4 Bay Path University 12-1 in a run-ruled five inning game as the Roadrunners improved to 26-14 overall while the Wildcats wrap up the season at 25-17. Ramapo advances to play Manhattanville College in game five of the NCAA Ithaca Regional at 5pm.
The Roadrunners wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning when they loaded the bases with no outs.
Jackie Howarth led off the game being hit by a pitch before back-to-back singles from
Ally Spellman and
Shannon Cox loaded the bases.
Christina Brizek drew a walk to force home Howarth for a 1-0 lead before
Krista Verrino and
Nicole Hernandez each recorded a sac fly to plate two runs for a 3-0 lead.
Spellman extended the Roadrunner lead 4-0 in the top of the second inning when she drove a line drive single into left field that was misplayed and rolled to the wall allowing
Jackie Howarth to score, Howarth led off the inning with a single.
Ramapo added two more runs in the top of the third inning. Hernandez singled before
Sisi Machinski smacked a two-run home run over the left field fence, her second of the season, to extend the Roadrunner lead 6-0.
Bay Path got on the board in the bottom half of the third inning with one run before Ramapo added five runs in the fourth inning. Verrino laced a single into left-center field plating
Shannon Cox before a bunt single from
Harper Patsko combined with a Bay Path throwing error allowed Brizek to cross home plate 8-1.
Kristen Ruggiero hit a line drive back to the third basemen who threw home while Verrino was able to slide under the tag for a 9-1 score before
Carly Vadinsky lined a single into left-center field picking up two RBI and extending the lead 11-1.

The Wildcats would load the bases off of Ramapo relief pitcher
Paige Merle in the bottom of the fifth inning but the infield turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat and preserve the 12-1 win.
Erin Fitzsimmons (6-4) struck out three, walked one and scattered two Wildcat hits in four innings of work while Merle worked the fifth inning walking two and surrendering one hit and no runs. Howarth, Spellman, Cox and Patsko all collected two hits in the game while the Roadrunners pounded out 12 hits as a team.
