#10/14 TCNJ BASEBALL DEFEATS RAMAPO 11-0 & 11-2

Ewing, NJ:  The #10/14 College of New Jersey baseball team swept Ramapo College today in NJAC action, 11-0 in game one and 11-2 in game two. The Lions now stand at 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners drop to 15-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
 
Game one
The Lions recorded 14 hits in game one while starting pitcher Joe Cirillo (3-1) scattered five hits over eight innings of work with two strikeouts and one walk in the shutout victory. TCNJ got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when a RBI single from Zach Shindler for the 1-0 lead. The Lions added two runs in the second while they broke the game open with six runs on two hits in the fifth inning to take a 9-0 lead. Jacob Simon recorded a bases loaded walk in the fifth to force home Thomas Persichett before Tommy McCarthy laced a single into center field plating two runs. Following a pitching change for the Roadrunners, Ryan Fischer doubled to right-center field plating two more runs for an 8-0 lead before Fischer scored on a wild pitch for the 9-0 lead.
 
TCNJ tacked on one run in the sixth and the eight to extend their lead 11-0. McCarthy led the way at the plate for the Lions finishing 3-5 with three RBI.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Cory Heitler (5-1) took the loss, working the first four innings with one strikeout and four walks. He scattered seven hits while surrendering eight runs, seven earned. Ramapo collected six hits in the game as they were led by Joe Maugeri who finished the game 2-4 with a double.
 
Game two
TCNJ pounded out 19 hits in game two, scoring 11 runs. The Lions scored two runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings to take a 6-0 lead. Ramapo added one run in the top of the seventh before TCNJ added five runs in the bottom half of the inning for an 11-1 lead. Ramapo added their second run in the top of the ninth inning before TCNJ recorded the final out of the game for the 11-2 NJAC victory.
 
Brandon Zachary (3-1) earned the win on the mound for the Lions as he struck out four, walked six and only let up one hit over the first five innings of work.
 
Ramapo collected six hits in the game as they were led by Vincenzo Sita who finished 3-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Jerry D'Andrea started on the mound for the Roadrunners and took the loss. He struck out two, walked six and surrendered 12 hits over six innings of work. Ryan Vasel came into the game in the top of the seventh and worked two innings. He struck out three, walked two and scattered seven hits while surrendering five runs, none earned.
 
Ramapo got on the board in the eighth inning. Austin Unglaub led off the inning with a single before he moved to third on a single into the right-center field gap from Connor Walsh. Bobby Shannon then lifted a sac fly to left field allowing Unglaub to score. The Roadrunners added one run in the ninth inning when Sita connected on the first pitch he saw as he led off the inning with his first home run of the season.
 
The Roadrunners return to action when they host the College of Staten Island in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 10th at 3:30pm at Jeff Maund Field.
