KEAN BASEBALL SLIPS PAST RAMAPO 3-1

Union, NJ:  The Kean University baseball team topped Ramapo College today in NJAC conference action 3-1. The Cougars improve to 11-13 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 14-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
 
Christopher Rossi (2-0) fired a complete game on the mound for Kean with nine strikeouts and one walk while he surrendered just one run and six hits. The Cougars got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the second inning while they added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 3-0.
 
With runners on second and third and one out, Steve Santigate put down a bunt single that scored the first run of the game in Nick Polizzano who walked to lead off the inning. Tim Huxen then plated Kean's second run of the inning with an infield ground out as Frank LoGiudice scored for a 2-0 lead. In the sixth inning, the Cougars added one run when Polizzano laced a RBI double into the right-center field gap as Matt Krupa scored 3-0.
 
Ramapo got one run back in the seventh inning. Liam Duffy walked with one out before Anthony Kuzmenko poked a RBI double down the left field line allowing Duffy to score from first base to put the Roadrunners on the board. Ramapo could not push a run across in their final two at bats as Kean came away with the NJAC conference win at home 3-1.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Kyle Haag took the loss as he struck out three, walked two and scattered four hits in seven innings of work. Greg Westhelle worked the eighth inning, facing three batters and striking out one in relief. Kuzmenko led the team at the plate with a 3-4 day with one RBI while Bobby Shannon finished 2-4 at the plate.
 
The Roadrunners and Cougars return to action tomorrow afternoon at Jeff Maund Field to wrap up the home-and-home series, first pitch is set for 3:30pm.
