Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team earned a key CVC conference win over rival Rutgers-Newark University tonight at the Bradley Center 3-2 (25-22,15-25,25-16,20-25,16-14). The Roadrunners now stand at 8-17 overall, 5-8 in the CVC while the Scarlet Raiders move to 11-8 overall, 7-6 in the conference.
The Roadrunners got a balanced offensive attack from four players who posted double-digit kills in the match. Senior
Garrett Fitzsimmons led the way with 16 kills while he added a team high ten digs and one solo block. Junior
Paul Close collected 15 kills, eight digs while he also posted two solo blocks and one assisted block. Sophomore
Eric Van Thuyne collected 13 kills, two aces, five digs and two assisted blocks while rookie
Conor Charlow added 13 kills, three aces and three assisted blocks. Sophomore
Lucas Inglis dished out a team high 50 assists while he also posted ten digs and one block. Junior
Terrence Cando added nine digs on defense while sophomore
Stephen Codispodo added five kills, six assists and five digs. The team hit .241 in the match with 63 kills on 145 attempts and 28 errors.
For Rutgers-Newark, Corey Pieper led the way with 14 kills while Ricky Crumlish added seven of his own. Nicoholas Arce-Cox, Jalen Sorrell and Brendon Frank each tallied six kills while Arnan Romua posted 33 assists. Jake Connors collected a team high 15 digs while Pieper added 12 of his own. Pieper also posted one solo block and seven assisted blocks while Sorrell and Arce-Cox each posted five assisted blocks. The team hit .164 in the match with 46 kills on 128 attempts and 25 errors.
The Roadrunners and Scarlet Raiders split their regular season matches both winning on their home floor. The two will meet in the opening round of the CVC Tournament on April 10th at the Golden Dome in Newark, NJ. Ramapo earned the #3 seed in the West Division while Rutgers-Newark earned the #2 seed in the East Division.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 5th when they travel to Hunter College for a non-conference match at 7pm.
