NJCU DEFEATS RAMAPO 6-2 IN NJAC BASEBALL ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The New Jersey City University baseball team defeated Ramapo College 6-2 today at Jeff Maund Field. The Gothic Knights improve to 14-8 overall, 4-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 16-11 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
 
The Gothic Knights got a complete game from starting pitcher Mike Ramirez (2-1) who struck out 12, walked four and scattered eight hits in the NJAC road victory. NJCU also capitalized on five Ramapo errors in the game as they plated three runs in the top of fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. With one out Dan Berardi reached on an infield error before a walk and single loaded the bases. The second Ramapo error of the inning brought home the first run of the game before a single from Jesse Kraft plated Lenin Gomez for a 2-0 lead. Jan Castellano drew a bases loaded walk to force home Juan Pena 3-0 before the Roadrunners got out of the jam with back-to-back fly outs.
 
Ramapo got one back in the bottom half of the inning. Bobby Shannon and Vincenzo Sita drew back-to-back walks to start the inning before Shannon stole third with no outs. Joe Maugeri then laced a single into center field allowing Shannon to touch home plate to get the Roadrunners on the board 3-1.
 
NJCU added one run in the seventh inning as Nick LoGatto reached on an error and later scored on an error to extend the Gothic Knights lead 4-1. In the top of the ninth, NJCU added two more runs. LoGatto drove home one RBI with a sac fly to center field before Berardi recorded a double to center field allowing Ramirez to score for the 6-1 lead.
 
The Roadrunners would not go away quietly in the bottom of the night as they plated one run. Austin Unglaub led off with a double to left field before he moved to third on an infield ground out. Ryan MacNaughton then laced a double down the left field line as Unglaub touched home plate 6-2. Ramirez would get a pop fly and a strike out to end the game as NJCU earned the 6-2 win.
 
Ungluab and MacNaughton each collected two hits for the Roadrunners. Jon Brignoni (2-1) took the loss on the mound for Ramapo. He struck out one, walked four and scattered two hits while surrendering three runs. Kyle Haag worked 3.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts, one walk while he surrendered two hits and one run. Greg Westhelle worked the ninth inning with two strikeouts. He surrendered two hits and two runs.
 
The Roadrunners travel to New Jersey City University tomorrow afternoon to complete the home-and-home conference series with a game at 3:30pm.
