Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team played host to the Mariners of USMMA today in a non-conference match-up as the Mariners came out on top, 9-8 in a regulation game. With the win USMMA improves to 4-2 overall and after the tough one-goal loss, Ramapo falls to 2-3.
The Mariners opened up the scoring just under four minutes into the game when Maura Malone posted an unassisted goal to go up, 1-0. Ramapo would tie the game with 18:50 left in the half as
Caitlin Ernest passed a ball off to
Shannon Eagan who posted one of her own.
The two teams traded scores with Jessica Reilly scoring for USMMA and
Colleen Manley tying it up again for Ramapo with 13:36 on the clock.
Nicole Jaskot would get the assist on the play.
Marines would go up again with a goal from Meredith Willard off an assist from Elena Chamberland before
Nicole Jaskot netted one of her own off an assist from
Gabi Davidson with 9:32 to go. Rebecca Bessler put the Mariners up 4-3 and Davidson would tally one of her own to again tie the game at four-all with under three to play. At the halftime buzzer, the Mariners led in shots, 18-6.
At the start of the second half, Kelly Midas quickly netted a goal for USMMA to go up 5-4 and Manley would tie the game yet again off an assist from Jaskot with 28:17 to play. The Roadrunners would go up, 6-5 as Eagan posted her second of the game off an assist from
Alyssa Tachon with 25:33 on the clock.
Beth McGraw would push Ramapo ahead by two, 7-5 at 23:43 after a pass from Manley and with 22:09 on the clock the Mariners would close the gap to 6-7 as Willard scored again. Kelly Midas knotted the game at seven-all before Willard scored again to take the lead, 8-7 with 14:11 on the clock.
The Mariners took a 9-7 advantage with 8:12 to play off a goal from Malone and Tachon would close the gap with six flat on the clock off an assist from
Molly Warner. The score held until the final horn as USMMA defeated the Roadrunners by one, 9-8.
In the second half, the Mariners again out shot Ramapo, this time, 20-9.
Monica Bubello made 16 saves in the game and Hannah Gizzi recorded five. Midas led with four ground balls and for Ramapo, Warner picked up five.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, March 29
th when they host Maritime at 4:30pm at the Athletic Center.
