RAMAPO DEFEATS WESTERN CONNECTICUT 12-10

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team held on for a 12-10 non-conference victory over Western Connecticut State University this afternoon at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 11-6 overall while the Colonials now stand at 8-6 on the year.
 
The Colonials got on the board first in the game with a run in the top of the first before Ramapo tied the game in the bottom of the second. Ryan MacNaughton singled home Joe Maugeri to tie the game for Ramapo before they added five runs in the third inning. Austin Unglaub led off with a double before Connor Walsh drove him home with a single. Vincenzo Sita walked and Maugeri beat out an infield single to lead the bases before Bobby Shannon drove home two runs with a double to left field for a 4-1 lead. Back-to-back hit by pitches to Liam Duffy and MacNaughton brought home another run before Anthony Kuzmenko plated a run with an infield ground out as Shannon crossed home plate for the 5-1 lead.
 
Western Connecticut tacked on three runs on four hits in the fourth inning to come within two 6-4 before Ramapo added three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Maugeri laced a double with two outs before Shannon singled him home with a single of his own. Shannon then stole second and third before coming home on Duffy's steal at second base before Duffy was able to score on MacNaughton's RBI single for the 9-4 lead. In the fifth inning the Roadrunners added two runs to extend the lead to 11-4. Maugeri and Shannon each collected RBI singles in the inning to score Austin Unglaub and Sita respectively.
 
The Colonials would make a come back in the eighth inning with six runs on five hits and two Ramapo errors. Zach Piroh and Kyle McLean each singled to start the inning before the bases were loaded following an infield error by the Roadrunners. One run came home via the second error of the inning before Postorino drove home a run of his own with a single, before two runs came home on an infield ground out. Zach Sagar then brought home a run with a sac fly before Ramapo made a pitching change. Greg Westhelle came into the game with two outs before be let up a single to Matt Fasoli as one run scored before he got the last out of the inning a strikeout swinging to end the threat and keep the Roadrunners in the lead, 11-10.
 
Ramapo added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs pinch runner Evan Ochlan scored on an RBI single from Kyle Buser for the 12-10 lead. Kevin Foulds came into the game for the Roadrunners in the top of the ninth inning to close the door and earn his fifth save of the season. Foulds induced a ground out and two strike outs to earn the save as the Roadrunners won 12-10.
 
Ramapo pounded out 15 hits in the game while Maugeri was 4-4 with three runs scored and one RBI and Shannon finished 3-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. MacNaughton finished the game 2-3 with three RBI and Unglaub was 2-5 with two runs scored. Kevin Stewart improved to 3-0 on the mound with three strikeouts, three walks in five innings of work. Stewart scattered seven hits in the game and surrendered four runs. Kyle Haag entered the game for one inning of relief in the sixth and did not give up a run and recorded all three outs via a strikeout. Ryan Vasel worked 1.2 innings, surrendering six runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk before Westhelle entered the game in the eighth inning. Westhelle faced two batters with one strikeout.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Lehman College in a non-conference game at 3:30pm.
