Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners now stand at 10-6 on the year while the Bears are now 3-8 overall.
Game 1:
Cory Heitler (4-0) went the distance for the Roadrunners with 15 strikeouts while he scattered five hits in the complete game win 5-1. Ursinus plated their lone run in the top of the first when Alex Mumme belted his second home run of the season with a solo shot over the left field fence for a quick 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good.
Matt Chemis walked before
Joe Maugeri reached on an error. Following the first out of the inning
Connor Walsh walked to load the bases before an infield error brought home Chemis and Maugeri for a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, Walsh ripped a double to right-center field before a single from
Vincenzo Sita put runners on first and third with one out.
Bobby Shannon then plated Walsh with a sac fly to right field for a 3-1 lead.
Nick Cuba worked a bases loaded walk to push home Sita before a pitching change for the Bears. Another run came home on a bases loaded walk from Chemis as
Liam Duffy touched home plate to extend the lead 5-1.
Neither team would score the rest of the game as Ramapo came away with the 5-1 victory. Ramapo posted five runs on two hits while the Bears collected five hits and posted one run in the game. Walsh and Sita each collected a hit for the Roadrunners.
Game 2:
A pitcher's dual almost pushed the game into extra innings before the Bears plated a pair of runs across in the top of the seventh inning.
Jerry D'Andrea went the distance for Ramapo in the tough loss. He struck out 13 and didn't walk a batter while he scattered seven hits.
For the Bears, Pierce Greenleaf also pitched a complete game with six strikeouts, two walks and only let up four hits in seven innings. In the top of the seventh inning, Mike Stanziale singled to center field with one out before a double from Connor Barrett put runners on second and third. Drew Roesch then laced a double into center field allowing both base runners to score for the 2-0 lead. A bunt single from Tom Jacobs put runners on the corners before D'Andrea got the final two outs of the inning via a strike out swinging and a strike out looking.
Ramapo did not get a runner on base in the bottom half of the inning as Greenleaf (1-1) recorded two strikeouts and a pop fly to earn the complete game win.
Maugeri led the way at the plate for Ramapo finishing game two 2-3.
The Roadrunners return to action Tuesday, March 27th when they host Western Connecticut State University in non-conference action at 3:30pm.
