RAMAPO SPLITS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's volleyball team split in non-conference action tonight as they played host to New Jersey City University and #10 ranked New York University at the Bradley Center on the Mahwah campus.  The Roadrunners now stand at 6-15 overall.  NJCU's records moves to 6-12 while NYU now stands at 13-7.
 
In the team's first match-up against the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, the Roadrunners recorded a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-17) sweep as senior Garrett Fitzsimmons led the team with 11 kills hitting 11-22 with just four errors (.318).  Eric Van Thuyne posted ten kills on a .588 hitting performance calculating zero hitting errors in the win.  Paul Close recorded eight kills and the team hit a combined 43-88 with nine errors (.386).  Lucas Inglis dished out 37 assists and Fitzsimmons and Close each picked up seven digs on defense.  Inglis grabbed six digs of his own and Brenden Russell, Conor Charlow, Fitzsimmons, and Close each put away four assisted blocks.   For NJCU, the team hit a combined 16-84 with 21 errors hitting -.060.  Joseph Stawicki, Mohamed Youssef, J.J. Berdecia, and Edgar Crespo each recorded three kills in the loss.  Luis Ayala dished out seven assists and Jimmy Vega added six.  The defense was led by Berdecia with seven digs.  Crespo picked up six digs of his own.
 
In a neutral match-up with NJCU facing off against New York University, it was NYU that came out on top, 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-23).  NYU was led by Alex Li who collected 16 kills while Evan Lindley and Brendan Duggan added eight and six kills respectively.  Matin Bikdeli dished out 34 assists and Connor Keowen led the team's defense with ten digs.  The team hit a combined 43-82 (.390) with 11 hitting errors.  NJCU's Stawicki and Berdecia recorded six kills a piece as the team went 18-63 with 14 errors hitting .063.  Vega and Ayala collected nine assists each.  David Penaherrera picked up ten digs in the loss.
 
In the Ramapo's second match-up of the night against NYU the Roadrunners posted a loss, 0-3 (16-25, 18-25, 27-29).  The Roadrunners were led by Van Thuyne who collected eight kills while Fitzsimmons posted seven of his own.  Inglis dished out 21 assists and Fitzsimmons and Terrence Cando picked up six digs on defense in the loss.  NYU's Li led the team with 12 kills hitting 12-23 with just five errors (.304).  Lindley picked up nine kills of his own and Nick Ferraro recorded five.  Bikdeli assisted on 27 points and Keowen recorded 12 digs on defense.  The team hit a combined 36-78 with 14 errors hitting .282. 
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, March 27th when they travel to Langhorne, PA to face off with #5 Marymount and Cairn University at 5pm and 7pm respectively.
