Kissimmee, FL: The Ramapo College softball team moved to 6-2 overall today with a double header sweep over Arcadia University 6-4 and Wheaton College (MA) 11-3 in a run-ruled six inning game. The Roadrunners are ranked #15 in the latest NFCA Top 25 Poll which was released this afternoon.
Game 1:
Jackie Howarth led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to center field before
Krista Verrino was hit by a pitch with no outs. The duo pulled off a double steal before
Christina Brizek lifted a sac fly to allow Howarth to score for the game's first run and a 1-0 lead.
Ally Spellman then lifted a sac fly of her own to plate Verrino for a 2-0 score. The Knights came back with four runs in the top of the second inning thanks to a grand slam from Amanda Hess to take a 4-2 lead.
Ramapo added one run in the fourth inning when Howarth doubled home
Harper Patsko who singled earlier in the inning to come within one 4-3. The Roadrunners would tie the game in the fifth inning when
Carli Egan laced a single back up the middle scoring Brizek who led off with an infield single for the 4-4 score. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth Howarth smacked a triple to center field before
Krista Verrino laced a single down the left field line for the go-ahead run 5-4. Following a single from Brizek to put runners on first and second, Spellman poked a single into right field allowing Verrino to score for the 6-4 lead.
Ramapo held the Knights in the bottom half of the inning as Arcadia brought the game winning run to the plate with one out before Brizek got back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat. Brizek came in for relief to start the fourth inning and earned the win. She struck out three, walked one and only surrendered one hit over the final four innings of work.
Erin Fitzsimmons started the game, striking out one, walking four and surrendering three hits over the first three innings of the game. Howarth was perfect at the plate finishing 4-4 with one single, two doubles and one triple while Brizek and Spellman each collected two hits.
Game 2:
Ramapo scored early and often against Wheaton (1-7 overall). The Roadrunners scored one run in the first inning on a single to center field from Spellman that plated Verrino before Wheaton scored one run in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1. The Roadrunners then plated four runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. Spellman led off with a double before
Shannon Cox drove her home with a single to left field while Cox advanced to second the throw into the infield. Egan then singled bringing Cox around to score. Egan later scored on a wild pitch before
Sisi Machinski laced a single down the left field line allowing Patsko to score for the 5-1 lead. The Lyons added single runs in the third and fourth innings to come within two of the lead 5-3 before Ramapo added three runs in the fifth inning for an 8-3 score. With two outs, Machinski walked, Howarth singled allowing Machinski to advance to third before Verrino plated Machinski with an infield hit. Brizek then ripped a 2 RBI double to left field. In the sixth inning the Roadrunners tacked on three more runs extending their lead to 11-3. Again with two outs
Sarah Browning ripped a single back towards the pitcher before advancing to second on a pass ball. Pinch hitter
Jessica Becchetti drew a walk before Machinski laced a single into right field to pick up two RBI. Howarth then plated the final run of the game with a hard hit single to left field allowing Machinski to score for the 11-3 lead.

Katrina Buczkowski (2-0) went the distance, she struck out three, walked four and scattered four hits over the run-ruled six innings of play. Machinski finished the game 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored while Howarth, Brizek, Spellman and Browning all collected two hits apiece.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow morning at 9am when they take on #19 ranked Ithaca College, a rematch of the 2017 NCAA Ithaca Regional Championship series. The Bombers are currently 4-2 overall.
