Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's volleyball team played host to Thiel College and Arcadia University today at the Bradley Arena where they dropped their first match-up to CVC rival Thiel, 1-3 (21-25, 19-25, 31-29, 18-25) before dropping the second match-up to Arcadia, 1-3 (25-17, 23-25, 20-25, 25-19).  With the two losses the Roadrunners fall to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the CVC Conference.

Ramapo vs. Thiel:
In their first match-up against Thiel, a CVC pairing, the Roadrunners dropped the first set, 21-25 despite a .429 hitting performance from Eric Van Thuyne.  He collected a team leading four kills while Garrett Fitzsimmons put away three.  Down by two at 7-9, Thiel would begin to pull away working to an eight-point lead, 20-12 on a kill by Mitchell Patterson.  The Roadrunners fought to the end chipping away and coming within three, 21-24 with a kill from Fitzsimmons, but it wasn't enough as Thiel took the set on a final kill by Jonathan Burkley.

Van Thuyne led Ramapo with three kills in the second set, but Thiel would control the offense once again climbing to a 16-8 advantage on a Ramapo attacking error.  A double-digit lead, 18-8 came on another Ramapo error as Thiel kept on top and collected their final points to take the second set, 25-19 and a two-set lead in the match.  Patterson led Thiel with seven kills and Jacob DeRue added four.

Ramapo would jump ahead 6-3 to start the third with a kill from Van Thuyne until Thiel pushed to tie it up (6-6) forcing a Ramapo error.  The Roadrunners connected four straight points to take a 10-6 advantage and continued to hold onto a slight lead until another Ramapo error would tie it up at 16-all.  The two teams traded points until a 29-29 tie, when a Thiel service error followed by a hitting error gave the Roadrunners the third set, 31-29, closing the match to one game to two.  Van Thuyne led Ramapo again with eight kills and Fitzsimmons added four.  Thiel was led by Patterson once again with six kills.

The decision came in the fourth set as Thiel worked to a 16-10 lead on a block from Stephen Borgen.  Ramapo chipped away but it was enough as Thiel proved to be too much taking the set, 25-18 and the match, 3-1.  DeRue led Thiel with four kills as Ramapo was led once again by Van Thuyne with three kills.

In the match, Patterson led Thiel with 21 kills as he hit .417 in the win.  The team combined hitting .243 with 51 kills on 107 attempts with 25 errors.  DeRue added 15 kills in the win.  Borgen dished out 43 assists and picked up eight digs.  Ryan Sumarsono led the defense with 18 digs.  For Ramapo, Van Thuyne finished with 18 kills and Fitzsimmons added 12 as the team went 40-115 with 25 errors hitting .130.  Lucas Inglis dished out 36 assists and Terrence Cando picked up eight digs.

In the third set, the teams went point for point trading the lead until a push from Arcadia and a kill from Austin Braas put Arcadia on top, 13-11 forcing a Ramapo timeout.  Arcadia would continue to spread the gap down the stretch as they would eventually take the set on a Ramapo service error, 25-20. Braas and Baily led Arcadia this time as they collected three kills each.  The Roadrunners were led by Fitzsimmons who recorded four kills in the set loss.

Arcadia took the match as they defeated the Roadrunners 25-19 in set four.  Ramapo led 4-1 at the start but Arcadia pushed to tie the set at four-all on a Ramapo hitting error.  The score would see-saw until a push from Arcadia, sparked by another Ramapo error, would give Arcadia a 19-14 lead.  They held the lead until the end as they took the match from the Roadrunners, 3-1.  Waters, Jr. led Arcadia with four kills and Baily added three, while the Roadrunners were led by Van Thuyne with four kills.
