Glassboro, NJ: The Rowan University women's basketball team recorded a 59-53 win over Ramapo College today in NJAC action. The Profs now stand at 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference while the Roadrunners are now 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.
The Roadrunners hung with the Profs through three quarters of action before they outscored Rowan in the fourth quarter 13-10 but it was not enough as Rowan held on down the stretch for the NJAC victory. The Roadrunners jumped out to a 6-1 lead, which would prove to be the biggest of the game for Ramapo, before Grace Marshall went on a mini 4-0 run of her own to cut the Roadrunner lead to one 6-5. A layup from
Kaity Potter put Ramapo back up three 8-5 before the Profs went on an 6-2 run to take their first lead of the game 11-10 with 2:24 left in the first quarter when Kailyn Sytsma sank two free throws. Jenna Hoffner scored the final six points for the Profs in the first quarter as they led 17-12 heading into the second.
Ramapo would cut the lead to three 25-22 on a three-pointer from
Jenna Harsh before an 8-3 run from Rowan capped off with a three-pointer from Jazlyn Duverglas put them up 33-25. Ramapo once again hit a three-pointer, this time from
Amber Sagan 33-28 before Rowan added four points to Ramapo's two as the Profs led by seven 37-30 at halftime.
Rowan scored back-to-back baskets to open the third period, taking an eleven-point lead 41-30. Ramapo would cut the lead to six down the stretch in the third period when
Samantha Rinaldi connected on a pair of free throws 46-40. A jumper from Duverglas put the Pros back up nine heading into the final quarter 49-40. Harsh opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer for Ramapo that sparked a 9-0 run which was capped off with a jumper from Rinaldi to come within two 51-49. Back to back baskets from Rowan stretch their lead back to six 55-49 with just over two minutes to play in the game. Ramapo cut the lead to three on a Repasy jumper with 31 seconds left in the game while Rowan scored their final three points of the game on the free throw line walking away with the 59-53 win.
Duverglas led the Profs with ten points while five players scored eight points of their own. Alexis Kriley, Rulon, Marshall and Kennedy Brown all contributed with eight points while Brown led the way with five steals. Sytsma led the Profs with eight rebounds and four blocked shots. The team shot 39% (23-58) from the field, 16% (3-18) from the three-point line and 55% (10-18) from the free throw line.
Rinaldi led both teams with 12 points in the game while she led Ramapo with five assists and two steals. Harsh contributed with eight points, four rebounds and two steals while Sagan added seven points of her own. The Roadrunners shot 34% (19-55) from the field, 22% (5-22) from the three-point line and 76% (10-13) from the free throw line. The Ramapo defense forced 19 Rowan turnovers which led to 17 points for Ramapo.
Ramapo returns to action this Wednesday, December 12th when they host Rutgers-Camden at 5:30pm in NJAC action.
