KEAN DEFEATS RAMAPO IN NJAC MATCH-UP AT HOME

Mahwah, NJ:  The Kean University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College 60-56 tonight in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.  The Cougars improve to 3-4 overall, 2-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners fall to 5-3 overall, 1-3 in the conference.  

Shannon McCoy led the Cougars with 12 points, Danielle Oakley and Bre Spencer each collected ten as the team shot a combined 21-68 (31%) from the field.  Oakley dished out three assists while Keidy Laureano led the team in rebounds with ten.

For the Roadrunners, Samantha Rinaldi led with 17 points and Cherie Smedile collected eight.  The Roadrunners shot 22-61 (36%) from the field.  Tia Solomon led the team with 15 rebounds and Rinaldi dished out two assists.  

The Roadrunners opened up the game with back-to-back baskets from Solomon and Smedile before the Cougars got on the board with a layup from Cindy Foresta 4-2.  The Cougars would take over the lead with a jumper by Payce Lange 7-6 followed by a 9-4 run to end the period with a four point lead over Ramapo 14-10.  In the second, the Cougars opened up the scoring with a layup from Lange.  Amber Sagan cut the Cougars lead to two with a layup with 5:42 remaining in the period, 14-16. The Roadrunners tied the game at 19 with 2:22 left in the period and went into the locker room trailing by one 22-23. 

The Roadrunners took the lead at the start of the third period when Rinaldi nailed down two free throws, 24-23.  Kean would tie the game at 24, but Ramapo went on a 6-0 run with a basket by Smedile and two from Rinaldi to go up 30-24.  The Cougars closed the gap with a layup by Laureano followed by a jumper and a layup by Spencer to tie the game at 30.  Oakley went to the basket to begin to push the Cougars over Ramapo as they ended the period with a 20-10 run to lead 48-40.  In the final period, the Roadrunners would open on a layup by Rinaldi to spark a 10-4 run to cut the Cougars lead to two, 50-52 with 6:36 on the clock.  Ramapo and Kean would trade baskets over the the next five minutes of play but the Roadrunners were unable to close the gap falling in the NJAC match-up at home.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, December 8th when they travel to Rowan University for a 1:00pm NJAC match-up.
