BARNES NETS SEASON HIGH 36 POINTS IN LOSS TO LINFIELD

Las Vegas, NV: The Linfield College men's basketball team defeated Ramapo College 83-65 tonight at the D3hoops.com Classic at the South Point Arena. The Wildcats used an offensive attack which included 16 three-pointers to snap the Roadrunners three-game win streak. The Wildcats improve to 9-2 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 10-3 on the year.

Linfield would take a 3-2 lead in the first two minutes of action and hold lead the rest of the game despite a come-back by the Roadrunners in the second half. Kashaun Barnes cut the lead to three 12-9 with a three-pointer with just under 14 minutes left to play in the first half. Barnes would once again cut the lead back to three 12-18 with a layup with 8:51 on the clock before Max Lommen started a 7-0 run for the Wildcats to take their first double digit lead of the game. The run was capped off by another three-pointer from Dempsey Roggenbuck for a 28-18 score. Linfield took their biggest lead of the half with just over three minutes left to play when Grant Gibb converted on a three-shot free throw attempt seeing the Wildcats take a fifteen-point lead 37-22. Ramapo would cut it to seven when Barnes started an 8-0 run that was capped off by his own made jumper to come within 37-30. Linfield converted on a free throw and their ninth three-pointer of the half as Gibb hit his fourth for an 11-point lead. Barnes would sink a three-pointer as time expired from half court for the Roadrunners to cut the lead to single digits as Linfield went into the locker room at halftime with a 41-33 lead. Ramapo was led in the first half by Barnes who scored 21 points, including 3-3 from the three-point line while Rob Lewis tallied ten rebounds and nine points.
 
Barnes started the second half with back-to-back shots, a three and layup, before Jason Battle made one free throw to cut the Linfield lead to two, 41-39, in the first two minutes of action. Roggenbuck started a 15-3 run with a pair of free throws that extended the Wildcat lead to 58-42 with less than 13 minutes left in the game. The run was capped off with another three-pointer from Bruil. Back-to-back baskets from Matt Latka cut the lead to 12 with just over 12 minutes left in the game before Austin Hilton converted on an and-one play extending the Wildcat lead 62-46. A three-pointer from Gibb gave Linfield their biggest lead 65-48 with nine minutes left before a mini 6-0 run by the Roadrunners cut the score to 65-54 with just over eight minutes on the clock. Connor Romano cut the lead to six with a fast break layup 65-59 before Roggenbuck converted for the Wildcats with a layup of his own 67-59. A pair of free throws from Barnes shrunk the lead to six with 4:25 left to play before the Wildcats outscored Ramapo 14-2 in the final four minutes of action, including three straight three-pointers to end the game 83-65.
 
Barnes finished with a season high 36 points including 5-7 from behind the three-point line and 7-8 from the free throw line. He added four rebounds and four steals in 40 minutes of action. Lewis recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Latka contributed with seven rebounds and eight points off the bench for the Roadrunners who shot 34% (23-66) from the field in the game. They shot 33% (5-15) from the three-point line and 70% (14-20) from the free throw line.
 
The Wildcats were led by Gibb who finished with 19 points including 5-12 from the three-point line while he grabbed six rebounds. Bruil also collected five three-pointers in the game as he finished with 15 points and four assists. Roggenbuck added 15 points, two assists, one block and one steal while Liam O'Reilly finished 3-4 from the three-point line for nine points while grabbing a team high nine rebounds. The team shot 40% (27-66) from the field, 39% (16-41) from beyond the three-point line and 61% (13-21) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 when they travel to NJAC rival the College of New Jersey for a 3pm matchup.
