Jamaica, NY: The Ramapo College women's basketball team earned their sixth (6-5) win of the season tonight as they defeated the Cardinals of York College, 49-39 on the road. The Cardinals fall to 2-8 with the loss.
Samantha Rinaldi led all scorers for Ramapo as she collected 19 points hitting 5-13 from the field including four three-point goals. She pulled down seven rebounds and grabbed two steals in the win. Jessica Repasy netted 11 points on the night with five boards and Cherie Smedile added seven points and seven rebounds. Sarah Minchin dished out a team leading three assists. The Roadrunners shot a combined 17-71 (24%) in the game and forced 18 York turnovers.
Mac-Dege Dessources led York with ten points and a huge 34 rebounds. She recorded four blocks in the loss. Kristina Sierra and Aminata Sagna each netted eight points on the night. York combined for 14-61 (23%) in the loss.
The Cardinals opened the game with a 7-2 lead halfway through the first period but the Roadrunners strung together an 8-0 run to close out the period on top, 10-7. Smedile nailed a three with 39 seconds to go to take the three-point advantage. The second period went back-and-forth as the teams traded the lead a few times but Ramapo would end at the half leading, 19-17.
York nailed down a three from Sheahna Roshcer at the start of the third to go ahead, 20-19 but a few minutes later, Rinaldi hit a three of her own to put Ramapo on top, 27-20 with 5:00 flat on the clock. York closed in on Ramapo and tied the game on two occasions in the remainder of the third, finishing at the buzzer ahead by one, 30-29. A long shot from Rinaldi started the final period putting the Roadrunners on top, 32-30 and after a 36-36 tie, Ramapo pulled away to take the game by ten, 49-39 on the road. In the final minutes, Rinaldi hit her final three to spark Ramapo's offense.
The Roadrunners return to action on December 28th when they travel to the Fort Lauderdale Classic to face off with Kenyon College at 11:00am.
