Rob Lewis recorded a career high 35 points while he pulled down 16 rebounds as the Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Gordon College 82-66 at the Rick Martin-Holiday Inn Express Tournament. The Roadrunners move to 3-0 overall and will play in the Championship game tomorrow afternoon against the host Westfield State University at 3pm.
The game was tied four times in the first eight minutes of action 14-14 before junior
Rob McWilliams scored back-to-back baskets for the Roadrunners as they began take control of the game. Eric Demers sank a three-pointer for Gordon to tie the game 20-20 with just under nine minutes left to play in the half before sophomore
Andre Morgan went on a 6-0 run of his own for Ramapo to take a 26-20 lead. Gordon would tie the game for the sixth time 28-28 with under five minutes on the clock before senior
Kashaun Barnes scored a three-pointer to start a 10-0 run capped off with a layup from Morgan for a 38-28 lead with 2:53 on the clock. Lewis scored the final basket of the half for the Roadrunners 44-32 before Gordon's Parker Omslaer tallied a basket 44-34.
In the second half the Roadrunners did not give up the lead and went up 20, 62-42 with 12:20 left in the game on a layup from McWilliams. Gordon shrunk the lead to 68-54 on a pair of free throws from Garrisson Duvivier before the Roadrunners stretched the lead back to twenty with 5:18 left to play 74-54. Gordon closed the gap to 12 points twice in the final three minutes of action but the Roadrunners would score the final four points of the game when Barnes and junior
Connor Romano would each sink a pair of free throws for the 82-66 non-conference victory.
Lewis finished 16-25 from the field while he tallied two steals, one block and one assist in the game. Barnes finished with 15 points including 3-4 from the three-point line while Morgan posted 12 points, three steals, four rebounds and one block. McWilliams collected eight points and ten rebounds while the Roadrunner defense forced 19 turnovers. Ramapo shot 50% (33-65) from the field, 75% (3-4) from the three-point line and 72% (13-18) from the free throw line. The Roadrunners out rebounded Gordon 39-33.
Gordon had three players score in double figures as they were led by Demers with 17 points while Duvivier posted a double-double 15 points and ten rebounds while he added two blocks. Noah Szilagyi added 12 points and Omslaer added nine points and seven rebounds. The team shot 36 % (20-55) from the field, 29% (7-24) from the three-point line and 70% (19-27) from the free throw line in the game.
