MCWILLIAMS BUZZER BEATER PROPELS RAMAPO OVER YESHIVA 72-69

Mahwah, NJ: Junior Rob McWilliams sank the game-winning three-pointer as time expired to propel the Ramapo College men's basketball team to a 72-69 non-conference victory over Yeshiva University tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners move to 2-0 overall while the Maccabees now stand at 0-2 overall.
 
The Roadrunners led for just over three minutes in the first half before Yeshiva took the lead with under 17 minutes left in the half which lasted into the second half. The Roadrunners clawed back as they saw themselves down 40-33 at halftime.
 
The Maccabees opened the second half with a basket to take a nine-point lead 42-33 before Ramapo went on a 7-0 run to bring them within two before Eitan Halpert knocked down a three-pointer for Yeshiva 45-40. Ramapo then went on a 9-1 run capped off with back-to-back baskets from senior Rob Lewis to regain the lead 49-46 with under 12 left to play in the game. A made free throw from Michael Hayon sparked a 10-0 run including back-to-back three pointer as the Maccabees led 56-49 with 9:11 on the clock. Yeshiva stretched their lead to ten before Ramapo began their comeback. Senior Kashaun Barnes hit a jumper before junior Matt Latka sank a pair of free throws to cut the lead to five with 5:43 left on the clock. Yeshiva saw themselves up seven 62-55 of a jumper from Daniel Tzion before Ramapo cut the lead to one with a mini 6-0 run 61-62 with 3:04 left in the game. Halpert sank a bucket for Yeshiva (1:26) to make it 66-62 before Lewis scored the next four points for the Roadrunners. A pair of free throws with 1:05 on the clock and a jumper off a steal from junior Connor Romano would tie the game 66-66 with 43 seconds on the clock. Daniel Katz hit the front end of a two-shot foul with 26 seconds left in the game as McWilliams grabbed the defensive rebound as Ramapo raced up the court with less than 20 seconds on the clock. The Roadrunners were called for an offensive foul putting Halpert on the free throw line for two shots with 11 seconds on the clock. Halpert sank both for the three-point lead as the Roadrunners once again pushed the ball up the court. Barnes sank a three-pointer with five seconds left off a pass from Romano to tie the game 69-69. Following a Yeshiva timeout, McWilliams was able to steal the inbounds pass from Yeshiva with less than two seconds remaining as Ramapo quickly called a timeout. Ramapo would be inbounding the ball on their sideline with exactly one second on the clock. Romano waited for McWilliams to weave through the Yeshiva defense as he dished him the ball in the corner. McWilliams had time to catch and shoot as the buzzer sounded sinking the game-winning shot 72-69.
 
McWilliams led the Roadrunners and posted a double-double for the second straight game with 26 points and 15 rebounds while he grabbed eight steals. Lewis added 15 points and 13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Barnes contributed with ten points while Latka added eight points. Romano led the team with seven assists. The team shot 39% (25-63) from the floor, 28% (2-7) from the three-point line and 74% (20-27) from the free throw line. Ramapo also out rebounded Yeshiva 43-34 while they also forced 27 turnovers that led to 26 points for the Roadrunners.
 
Four players scored in double figures for Yeshiva as they were led by Ryan Turell who tallied 25 points. Tzion posted 14 points while Gabriel Leifer added 13 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. Halpert collected 12 points and five assists. The team shot 46% (25-54) from the floor, 33% (6-18) from the three-point line and 61% (13-21) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, November 16th when they travel to the Rick Martin Holiday Inn Express Tournament hosted by Westfield State. Ramapo will take on Gordon College at 7:30pm.
