New London, CT: The Ramapo College men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Sectional Round with a 1-0 shutout win over #24 Connecticut College. The Roadrunners improve to 17-3-2 overall and now stand as the winningest team in program history. The Camels end the season 13-3-2 overall.
Ramapo posted their second straight shutout and eighth of the year while the Roadrunners defeated a Connecticut team that posted 13 shutouts on the year (12 wins and one tie). Junior
Joseph Fala posted his NCAA Division III leading 27th goal of the year in the 10th minute (9:54) of the first half. Junior
Justin Charkowski sent a 60-yard free-kick into the box as Fala was able to redirect the ball off a header for the 1-0 score.
The Camels were awarded a penalty kick in the 40th minute (39:50) of the game. Sophomore goalie
Joshua Schaffer made a diving save to his left to keep the Camels off the board. In the first half the Camels held a 6-4 advantage in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Late in the second half,
Antony Williams made a goal line save (81:57) when the Camels got a foot on a loose ball in the box following a corner kick. Just 29 seconds later the Camels would hit the post as the Roadrunners were able to clear the ball out. In the 83rd minute Charkowski put a shot on goal while AJ Marcucci made the save for the Camels. Schaffer came up big in the final four minutes of play with four big saves, including a shot in the final ten seconds as the Roadrunners came away with the victory.
For the game, the Camels posted 13 shots (eight on goal) while the Roadrunners recorded six shots (four on goal). Schaffer recorded seven saves for Ramapo while Marcucci posted three for Connecticut College.
Ramapo advances to next weekend's "Sweet 16" for the first time in program history. The Roadrunners will face a familiar foe in NJAC conference rival Montclair State University at a location to be determined.
