RAMAPO WRAPS UP HISTORIC SEASON IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

Medford, MA:  The Montclair State University men's soccer team topped Ramapo College 3-0 in the NCAA Sweet 16 today at Tufts University. The Red Hawks (18-1-4) advance to the NCAA Elite Eight round and will take on the host Jumbos (15-0-3) tomorrow afternoon.
 
The Red Hawks got on the board in the 32nd minute of the game when they were awarded a penalty kick. Rafael Terci scored the goal for MSU for the 1-0 lead. MSU would score two more goals, both in the second half by Griffin Bacon (69th minute) and Terci (85th minute) to extend their lead 3-0.
 
The Red Hawks held a slight lead in shots in the game 17-14 including nine on goal to Ramapo's six. MSU posted seven corner kicks to Ramapo's four. Sophomore Joshua Schaffer posted six saves for Ramapo in goal. Mike Saalfrank collected six saves for MSU in the team's 11th shutout of the season.
 
The Roadrunners wrapped up the season with the best record in program history at 17-4-2 overall. Picked to finish 9th in the NJAC preseason poll, the Roadrunners finished second in the conference earning the #2 seed in the NJAC Tournament. Ramapo advanced to the NJAC Championship for the first time in school history and earned the program's first NCAA at-large bid on November 5th after being ranked #2 in the NCAA South Atlantic Region. 
 
Ramapo made their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history (2018, 1997) and traveled to Connecticut College to take on Springfield College in a first round game. The Roadrunners defeated the Pride 2-0 and earned the first NCAA win in program history before they posted a 1-0 shutout over the host Camels to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 Round. Junior Joseph Fala led the team with 27 goals and is currently 2nd in NCAA Division III in total goals.
