Madison, NJ: The Drew University field hockey team defeated Ramapo College 3-2 in overtime tonight in non-conference action. With the win the Rangers move to 2-14 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 4-12 on the year.
Jessica Cacoso put the Roadrunners on the board in the first half when she took a pass from
Angela Oskierko and hit the back of the cage to take a 1-0 lead (5:44). Ramapo was awarded a penalty stroke in the 22nd minute as
Melissa Choka pushed the ball past the Ranger's keeper to extend the lead 2-0.
In the second half, Sami Strathern would put Drew on the board with her first goal of the year, unassisted just 1:15 into the second half. The Rangers would tie the game with a goal from Kate Todero, her second of the season to even the score 2-2. Neither team could find the back of the cage in the final ten minutes of action sending the game into overtime.
Todero would score the game-winner for Drew just 3:30 into the overtime period on a pass from Mallory Holson. Todero was able broke away from the Ramapo defense and beat the keeper to score 3-2 to propel the Rangers to the non-conference victory.
Ramapo held a 16-6 advantage in shots in the game while the Roadrunners tallied 21 penalty corners to Drew's three. Ramapo goalie
Samantha Stolker recorded three saves in the game including a diving stick save with 16 minutes left to play. Ryann Callaghan recorded nine saves for the Rangers.
The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, October 26th when they host Western Connecticut State University in the final game of the season at 3:30pm.
