Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team wrapped up the 2018 season today with a shutout win over Western Connecticut State University 2-0. With the non-conference victory, the Roadrunners improve to 5-12 overall while the Colonials now stand at 11-7 on the year.
Melissa Choka put the Roadrunners on the board with the eventual game-winning goal in the fourth minute of action. After inserting into the play following a penalty corner, Choka took a quick pass from
Jessica Cacoso and hit the back of the cage for a quick 1-0 lead. This was Choka's sixth goal of the season.
Ramapo recorded their second goal of the game in the second half (41:49) when
Melissa Doran slipped a pass to
Kelli Ratkoski who beat the keeper before tapping the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 score. The Roadrunner defense held the Colonials the rest of the game as Ramapo goalie
Samantha Stolker faced three shots in the game, none on goal in the shutout victory.
Neve Manion recorded eight saves for WestConn in just over 46 minutes of action while Samantha Ripegno recorded seven saves in the final 23 minutes of the game.
Ramapo held a 26-3 advantage in shots in the game while they posted 13 penalty corners to WestConn's one.
