Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team secured their place in the 2018 NJAC Tournament today as they defeated Rowan University, 2-1 on the road with two goals coming from Joseph Fala. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 13-2-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while Rowan falls to 12-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard first in the game as Fala posted his 20th goal of the season in the 15th minute of play picking up a loose ball and beating the keeper to give Ramapo a 1-0 lead. With under five minutes to play in the half, Fala would strike again as he riffled a shot past the Rowan netminder to give the Roadrunners a two goal advantage which head until the halftime buzzer.
Fala's 21st goal of the season ties the record for most goals in a season at Ramapo held by assistant coach Rob Santaniello.
The two teams went even in shots for the half as they each recorded six. Rowan held an advantage in corners at 3-0 and Joshua Schaffer made three saves in goal for the Roadrunners. Kyle Dennis made one save for the Profs.
In the second half, Rowan's Jackson Nwokeoma posted a header goal off an assist from Nick Schlageter to close the gap, 1-2 at the 74:43 minute mark but it wasn't enough as the Ramapo defense and Schaffer held off the Profs to take home the 2-1 victory.
Rowan held a 15-5 advantage in shots in the second half of play and earned eight corners to Ramapo's zero but it didn't matter as the ball landed in Ramapo's favor for the win.
Schaffer made four more saves in the final half and Dennis added two.
Ramapo plays their final regular season game on Wednesday, October 24th as they travel to William Paterson for a 7pm kick-off.
