Mahwah, NJ: Junior Joseph Fala propelled Ramapo past the Cougars of Kean University today as the Roadrunners earned a 2-1 overtime victory at home on senior day. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 12-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while Kean falls to 5-7-3 overall and 1-5-1 in the conference.
It took 31-plus minutes and many shots by Ramapo before Fala was able to beat the defense and the goalie to give Ramapo a 1-0 advantage scoring his 18th of the season on an unassisted goal. The remainder of the half went scoreless as the Roadrunners out shot Kean, 11-5 in the first 45 minutes of play.
Joshua Schaffer made two saves in the first half and Derek Phells made three for the Cougars.
Playing one man down, the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick at 61:35 which went in their favor as Felipe Lucas posted his tenth of the season beating Schaffer. The Roadrunners collected 14 more shots in the half to the Cougars' three but could not find the back of the net ending regulation tied at 1-1.
It took just one shot in overtime, just 1:10 into the period for Fala to connect on a pass from Ronald Kestelboym to post the game winning goal giving the Roadrunners their 12th victory of the season. The goal was Fala's 19th of the year.
Ramapo finished the day leading in shots, 26-8 while Schaffer collected two saves in goal. Phells made six saves for Kean and the Roadrunners earned eight corners to Kean's two.
The Roadrunners travel to Rowan University on Saturday, October 20th when they face off with the Profs at 7pm.
