Mahwah, NJ: The Kean University field hockey team used two second half goals to earn their first NJAC conference win of the season 3-1 over Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center. The Cougars now stand at 7-9 overall, 1-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 4-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
The Cougars got on the board first in the half with a goal from Erin Donnelly off a penalty corner from Rachel Mills for a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute (11:32). Ramapo would tie the game in the 20th minute (19:49) when
Kelli Ratkoski collected her first goal of the season to put the Roadrunners on the board 1-1. The Cougars earned one of three of their defensive saves in the game in the first half when Kayla Molnar stopped a hard shot from
Victoria Ewanis in the 29th minute to keep the scored tied at one. Kean led 9-5 in shots and 8-4 in penalty corners in the first half.
In the second half, Audrey Treanor tallied her third goal of the season off a pass from Melissa Way to put the Cougars up 2-1 (39:02). In the 59th minute Way tallied her sixth goal of the season off a pass from Jenna Patrone to extend Kean's lead 3-1. Patrone would stop two shots from the Roadrunners in the final two minutes of action at the goal line to hold the Kean lead. Kean held a slight edge in shots 12-9 and penalty corners 5-4 in the second half.
For the game, the Cougars collected 12 shots on goal while Ramapo tallied eight.
Samantha Stolker posted nine saves for the Roadrunners while Bailee Mullen collected four for Kean.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, October 20th when they travel to Stockton University for a NJAC conference game at 1pm.
