Camden, NJ: The Rutgers-Camden University women's soccer team won a key NJAC conference game today over Ramapo College 2-0. The Scarlet Raptors improve to 7-5-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the NJAC while they sit in fourth place in the conference standings. The Roadrunners now stand at 2-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
The Scarlet Raptors scored one goal in each half to earn the NJAC victory. Meghan Wachira tallied her ninth goal of the season off a pass from Sophia Spanado in the 7th minute of the game (6:24) to put Rutgers-Camden on the board with the eventual game-winning goal. The Scarlet Raptors held a 6-1 advantage in shots in the first half.
In the second half, Ava Pizzaro tallied her fifth goal of the season. She put the ball into the back of the net on a header off a corner kick from Sarah Zuzulock to extend the lead 2-0 in the 57th minute (56:18). The Scarlet Raptor defense held Ramapo scoreless in the second half as the Roadrunners led 8-7 in shots. Rutgers-Camden held a 13-9 edge in shots while just 7-5 in shots on goal. Elizabeth Harvell each collected five saves in the game. Ramapo posted a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, October 17th when they host New Paltz in a non-conference game at 3pm.
