Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team played a tough match-up today with the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden where the two teams ended 110 minutes of soccer knotted at one. With the 1-1 tie Ramapo now stands at 11-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while Rutgers Camden sits at 11-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play.
The Scarlet Raptors would strike first in the game as Patrick Grudnick posted his 5th goal of the season off an assist from Skyler Diggs at 27:01. Just over five minutes later, junior Joseph Fala would put away his 17th of the season as he beat the keeper on a breakaway at the 32:18 minute mark. The score would hold until the halftime buzzer where Ramapo led in shots, 9-5 and corners, 3-1. Joshua Schaffer made two saves in the first half for Ramapo and James Brett collected four for RU Camden.
In the second, many opportunities for Ramapo fell just shy as the Roadrunners again out shot the Scarlet Raptors, 14-5. Schaffer collected an additional three saves as well as Brett. Ramapo earned five more corners in the second half as Rutgers Camden was held to none.
The teams played an additional 20 minutes of soccer but neither team was able to hit the back of the net leaving the two knotted at one goal each. In overtime, Ramapo hit three shots to RU Camden's zero.
Ramapo controlled much of the offensive play as they out shot the Scarlet Raptors, 26-10 on the day. Schaffer finished with five saves and Brett eight.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday, October 15th when they host Western Connecticut for a 3:30pm match-up at the Athletic Center.
