Union, NJ: The Kean University women's soccer team scored a goal in each half defeating Ramapo College 2-1 tonight in NJAC action. The Cougars improve to 4-5-4 overall and even their NJAC record at 2-2-2 while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
Cori Dengel put the Cougars on the board in the first half when she took a pass from Lexy Monroy for a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute (21:21). The score held heading into halftime as Kean led 10-3 in shots in the first half.
Emily Bretschneider hit the back of the net in the second half (62:50) with the eventual game-winning goal off a pass from Madison Krisanda. The Roadrunners put their goal on the board in the 82nd minute (81:55) when
Gabrielle Gentilucci posted her first goal of the season, unassisted to come within one 1-2. In the 88th minute of the game the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick as
Elizabeth Harvell came up big for Ramapo to make the save. The Roadrunners could not find the back of the net in the final two minutes to extend the game as Kean came away with the one goal victory 2-1.
The Cougars led in shots 22-13 while they held a slight edge in shots on goal 8-7. Kean recorded six corners in the game while Ramapo tallied two. Harvell posted six saves in the game for the Roadrunners. Casey McDonnell did not make a save in the first 45 minutes of action for Kean while Mary Bystrycki tallied six saves in the second half.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, October 13th when they travel to Rutgers-Camden University for a NJAC game at 1pm.
