WPU DEFEATS RAMAPO 57-49

Box Score Wayne, NJ:  The William Paterson University women's basketball team outlasted Ramapo College tonight in NJAC action in a 57-49 win. The Pioneers improve to 10-7 overall, 7-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
 
The Pioneers opened the game on an 8-0 run before the Roadrunners put together a 7-0 run of their own. Jenna Harsh scored four points for the Roadrunners including a three-pointer to come within one 8-7 with 34 seconds left in the first quarter. Simone Small took a pass from Tori Woetzel for a jumper in the final ten seconds for a 10-7 lead.
 
Ramapo took a 17-10 lead with a 10-0 run to start the second quarter as Harsh and Stacey Porzl each connected on a three-pointer. WPU cut the Ramapo lead to three with back-to-back shots before the Roadrunners extended their lead back to seven, 21-14 with a jumper from Bridgette Buckalew. With 1:10 Alisa Giordano sank a three-pointer for WPU which started a 7-2 run for the Pioneers which saw the Roadrunners head into the locker room up 25-23 at halftime.
 
Porzl connected on one of two of her free throws to start the third quarter before WPU took the lead for the rest of the quarter. Julie Rovito nailed back-to-back three pointers, which put the Pioneers up three with 8:25 on the clock 29-26. A 5-0 run by WPU extended their lead 38-31 before Ramapo scored four straight baskets for an 8-0 run taking a 39-38 with less than a minute to play. Rovito would put WPU back up by one as she hit a jumper with 17 seconds left in the third quarter to take a 40-39 lead. WPU held the Roadrunners to just three field goals in the fourth quarter and went on a 10-0 run taking a 52-43 lead with 6:18 left to play. A jumper from Buckalew and a free throw from Jessica Repasy cut the lead to six 52-46 before Ashley Castillo and Woetzel converted on their free throws for a 56-46 lead with 27 seconds remaining. Harsh hit a three-pointer for the Roadrunners before CeCe Green scored the final point for the Pioneers on the free throw line as they defeated Ramapo 57-49.
 
Jenna Harsh and Tia Solomon each scored 11 points to lead the Roadrunners while Crawford added eight points of her own. Harsh connected on three three-pointers in the game while Solomon grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Buckalew and Repasy posted a team high three assists each. The team shot 41% (20-48) from the field, 40% (4-10) from the three-point line and 50% (5-10) from the free throw line. The Ramapo defense forced 19 WPU turnovers which led to ten points for the Roadrunners.
 
Rovito led the Pioneers with 14 points; four assists and one block while Woetzel added ten points, eight rebounds and two assists. Castillo added nine points while Brianna Brooks contributed with seven points. The Pioneers shot 35% (20-57) from the floor, 35% (5-14) from the three-point line and 63% (12-19) from the free throw line. WPU forced 22 Ramapo turnovers, which led to 22 points for the Pioneers.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 20th when they host Stockton University in a NJAC match-up at 3pm.
