New Paltz, NY: The Hawks of SUNY New Paltz women's soccer team defeated visiting Ramapo College today 1-0 in non-conference action. The Hawks improve to 2-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-2 on the year.
In the 8th minute of the first half Nicole Sheintul collected a rebound off a shot from Julia Friedman and found the back of the net to put the Hawks up 1-0 just 7:43 into the game. The Roadrunners had their chances in the first half, recording five shots as New Paltz goalkeeper had to turn away just one on-goal. The Hawks held a 7-5 advantage in shots in the half while
Elizabeth Harvell tallied three saves for the Roadrunners.
The Hawks did not add to their lead the remainder of the game while the Roadrunners could not find the back of the net to tie the game up. In the second half New Paltz once again held a slight edge in shots 8-6 while Harvell collected four more saves. Hawks goalkeeper Megan Tornatore posted four saves in the shutout victory.
The Roadrunners return to action this weekend when they travel to Madison, NJ for the Drew Fall Fest. Ramapo will take on Lycoming College at 3pm on Saturday before returning to take on host Drew University at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Ramapo last played Drew during the 2015 season when they defeated the Bears 3-2 on the road while this is the first time the Roadrunners will take on Lycoming under head coach
Abby Shiffler.
