Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team played host to the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up where Rutgers Camden came out on top, 2-1 behind two goals from Meghan Wachira. With the win the Scarlet Raptors improved to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Ramapo falls to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC.
The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard first with a goal from
Gabrielle Gentilucci at 12:38 off an assist from
Nani Vizcaino but just over two minutes later, Wachira ripped a shot past the Ramapo netminder to tie the game at 1-1. Wachira would strike again at 20:12 when she capitalized on an awarded penalty kick to put Rutgers Camden up, 2-1.
The second half would go scoreless leaving the Scarlet Raptors on top, 2-1 for the NJAC win.
Rutgers Camden held a 7-4 advantage in shots in the first half and again in the second, 6-4.
Elizabeth Harvell made ten saves for Ramapo and Katie Gurba blocked two shots for the Scarlet Raptors. Gruba gets her first win of the season and improves to 1-2 on the year.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, October 4th when they travel to Bard for a non-conference match-up at 5:30pm.
